If you're looking at an old bill from 2023, enter your account number using a . (period) rather than a - (dash).
- When you set up an online account, electronic copies of your bills will be retained and available for viewing or reprint. There is no additional charge for this service.
- For existing customers wanting to sign up for paperless billing, you must establish an online account.
- Note that the free automatic payment plan through your checking or savings account is signed up through the City and NOT the online portal.

Utility Billing
To establish utility services in your name:
- Complete Application for Utility Services.
- Pay $100 Deposit or enroll in Auto Payment Plan (you'll need your checking or savings accounting number and routing number).
- You will remain responsible for utility services until you contact the Finance Department to notify us otherwise.
To remove utility services out of your name:
- Complete Moving Out Form.
- We will read the meter on the day you request, but it must be today or a date in the future.
- A final bill will be prepared on our regular billing cycle at the end of the month.
- The final bill will reflect all charges, less the deposit (if any).
- Credit balances will be refunded within 2-3 weeks of the final bill processing.
Payments are due on the 20th of each month.

- Payments made by cash, money order, or check (via mail or walk-in).
- In Person: Payments are accepted at 201 W Virginia Ave., the City Municipal Building. We are open Monday-Friday from 8 am-5 pm. We are closed on City holidays.
- Drop Boxes: There is a drop slot in the north door of the City Municipal Building. There is also a drive-through drop box located in the alley between the City Municipal Building and the First Baptist Church. Do not pay with cash when using drop boxes. Payments made by check or money order will NOT be charged a convenience fee.
- Mail: Send payments to City Finance Dept, PO Box 239, Gunnison, CO 81230. Do not mail cash.
- Sign up for or update your Automatic Payment Plan with monthly bank drafts from your checking or savings account on the 20th of each month. NOTE: This type of auto pay will NOT be reflected in your online portal because the Finance Department is running this method of autopay manually to avoid fees.

- E-CHECK (checking or savings account) convenience fee = $1.25 per transaction. Sample calculation: $100 purchase + $1.25 transaction fee = $101.25 total charge.
- CREDIT / DEBIT CARD portal fee = $3.00% of the total transaction amount. Sample calculation: $100 purchase + 3.00% transaction fee = $103.00 total charge.
- In Person: Payments are accepted at 201 W Virginia Ave., the City Municipal Building. We are open Monday-Friday from 8 am-5 pm. We are closed on City Holidays.
- Telephone: Payments may be made 24/7 by calling toll free 970-427-9987 using your credit card.
- Online: Paying your bill on line is fast, easy and convenient. You will need your City of Gunnison account number.
- You can set up autopay via credit card/debit card.
- One-time payments can also be made with credit/debit cards or via e-checks.
Equal Pay Program Application - The Customer will pay an equal monthly amount. The average is recalculated during each January. This plan is a financial arrangement offered to help consumers manage their energy costs more effectively. The program may beneficial for consumers who prefer consistent monthly payments and want to avoid the seasonal spikes in their utility bills such as higher heating costs in the winter or higher water usage in the summer for irrigation, for example.
L.E.A.P. – Low-Income Energy Assistance Program is administered by Gunnison County Dept of Health and Human Services.
Gunnison Valley Home Energy Advancement Team (GV-HEAT): A home energy efficiency program that provides home energy assessments and upgrades to all households in the Gunnison Valley. Income-qualified and non-income qualified programs are available.

Housing Resources of Western Colorado - Provides housing services and housing that is affordable to families and individuals in Western Colorado through Housing Rehabilitation and Weatherization.
Refuse (Trash) Service: The City provides containers for residents living inside city limits. According to the City Code, "All owners or occupants of premises within the City which are encompassed by the definition of residential users are hereby required to use the garbage and trash collection and disposal system established herein." (Code 1997 12-6-4). Commercial accounts may choose other trash removal companies.
Recycling Service: The City of Gunnison encourages all residences to recycle as much as possible.
Refuse (Trash) & Recycle Pick-up Schedule/Map
- There are two refuse sizes to choose from: 64-gallon (small) or 96-gallon (large). Click here for rates and more information. All trash must fit inside the container. Contact Public Works to arrange for a special pick-up of excess refuse and/or larger items.
- For customers that generate very little trash and/or aggressively recycle, you may apply to have your trash picked up every other week. Click HERE to complete the application. Click HERE for the bi-weekly pickup schedule.
- The containers belong to the City of Gunnison and are to be left behind when moving.
- If the container is too big or too small email a request to have the container exchanged for a different size.
- Apartments, mobile homes, and condominiums with 4 or more residential units may have a dumpster available for your use and you may be billed by the City. Check with your landlord for details and to determine the location of your trash pickup. The rate is based upon the frequency of pickup, and the number of units within the complex.
Recycling Service: The City of Gunnison encourages all residences to recycle as much as possible.
- There is no additional charge to recycle. The cost to pick up your recyclables is included in the refuse fees.
- Recycling containers may be picked up at Public Works located at 1100 W Virginia Ave.
- The containers belong to the City of Gunnison and are to be left behind when moving.
- Recycling is picked up on the same day as your regular refuse collection.

Net Metering Program - Customers can install solar panels or wind turbines which are connected to the City's power grid and surplus power is transferred onto the grid, allowing customers to offset the cost of power drawn from the utility. The customer is reimbursed monthly for generation offsetting consumption at the retail rate and excess generation after a year is reimbursed at the wholesale rate.

Attic Insulation Program - Customers participating in the Residential Attic Insulation Program are eligible for an incentive of $0.15 / square foot with a maximum incentive amount of $300 per existing residential dwelling. New construction and/ or additions do not qualify.
Commercial LED Lighting Program - The Commercial LED Lighting Program provides a cash incentive to replace less efficient lighting products with new, high-efficient lighting. The program offers incentives (while funds last) to help cover the cost of energy efficient upgrades.
Smart Thermostat Program - If you have a home Wi-Fi connection and a central air-conditioning or heat pump system, you may qualify for an incentive of up to $100 for installing a qualifying smart thermostat.
High Efficiency Heat Pump Program - You can receive incentives between $400 and $3,000 for installing high-efficiency heat pumps since heating is likely the largest user of energy in your home. The application can be found HERE.
Residential Appliance Rebate Program - If you replace an appliance with a new Energy Star rated appliance, you can receive a $50.00 rebate.
